Special after summer event

For this After Summer Event we can present you a interesting line-up.  This event was again organized by the Web team led by Bart Chanet, Wim Vanhenden and Andries De Reyghere.  And again they managed to find you a fabulous location at the old mine-site in Genk (C-Mine).  This location is easy to reach and you'll not be annoyed by traffic-jams.  Plenty of parking-space and a drink offered by the beautiful city of Genk will make this event a success-story.

Online sidescrolling game

Alwyn Wymeersch (Multimediacollege)

Alwyn Wymeersch

Multimediacollege had the pleasure of developing a side scrolling game together with Tipik, who were in charge of the concept and (excellent) artwork.

In this session, Alwyn is going to talk about how this project was developed. About the fun parts and the less fun parts and which techniques were used to achieve certain goals. In this session, we’ll cover both the architecture of the game as well as the in-house developed AIR level editor. On top of this, you’ll get some tips and tricks and one bite ready code optimizations.

Alwyn Wymeersch
is a certified consultant and instructor for the Adobe Flash platform. If he isn’t teaching, he coaches other professional Flash/Flexers in their development and helps them to deliver state of the art projects. Preferably as complex and innovative as possible. In the late hours, you’ll most likely find him behind his computer experimenting with the latest flash API’s or trying to kill that last bug before tomorrow’s deadline.

33 milliseconds in hell

David Lenaerts (Derschmale)

David LenaertsThe 30 frames per second benchmark, plunging your cpu into the bowels of hell every single frame, over and over again, all in the name of "real time graphics". Whether you're into game development, visual experiments, or demanding experience sites, as a Flash developer you'll inevitably go down that route, cursing and swearing.

In this guided tour through the nine circles of hell, we'll visit some basic survival tactics and tools to keep the devil at bay, such as Away3D, Pixel Bender, Alchemy and a healthy dose of plain common sense.

(Bring your own pitchforks!)

David Lenaerts
is an ActionScript 3 developer at derschmale.com with a strong preference for visually applied mathematics and physics in 2D and 3D. He spends most of his time locked inside, babbling incoherently, forgetting to shave and drinking coffee. To pass the time between cups, he likes to create visually rich web experiences, applications and experiments. Being active as an Away3D core developer, he often contributes his work to the open source community.
During off moments, David is a wanna-be music composer and video game enthusiast (though admittedly mainly for the graphics).

Adobe and HTML5

Serge Jespers (Webkitchen)

Serge JespersBeing a platform evangelist, Serge knows stuff we don't... but this is about to change: he's revealing a well kept secret for us!

Serge Jespers
is an Adobe Platform Evangelist and longtime Flash enthusiast. For more than 10 years he has been working with Flash to develop award-winning online experiences, including projects for Belgium’s largest media company in support of numerous TV shows such as Idols, Big Brother, and Miss Belgium. He became an Adobe certified freelance Flash designer/developer in 2004 and joined Adobe in 2007.

Serge believes you can do virtually anything with Flash, and is eager to prove it. Born and raised in Belgium, he now lives near Antwerp when he is not traveling all over Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) to spread the word about AIR, Flash, and Flex.

After Party

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. We're very happy the city of Genk is offering us an open bar at the end of the event, great occasion to do some networking. If that isn't enough, we're also happy you can join an after work party at the same c-mine site. You can find all details here, although this is for the full package including movie and dinner, which you can't do, because you're at the AUG, right :). But joining the party afterwards is an option we can offer at a discount rate of €10.

Update: The party is canceled, but there will be an open bar for us! :-)
